Our history
We entered the Formula 1 arena in 1995 with our sponsorship of the Red Bull-Sauber PETRONAS F1 team, the first bold step towards positioning PETRONAS as a global brand. This effort was further enhanced in 1999 when we secured the title sponsorship rights for the F1 Grand Prix in Malaysia.
In 2005, we extended our long-standing relationship with Sauber when PETRONAS became the Premium Partner to the BMW Sauber F1 Team.
In 2009, we signed a five-year agreement with Mercedes-Benz as the title partner, when the Silver Arrows team re-joined the grid for the first time since 1955. Now with 8 consecutive Constructor’s and Drivers’ Championship wins, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Team continues to go from strength to strength.
